We've just returned from our annual 10 days at Indian Springs Holiness Campmeeting. My family has a cabin there and we've spent 10 days every summer for the past 25 summers there. For those of you who have never been, Indian Springs is in Flovilla, GA about 30 minutes north of Macon. It is a campground with cabins, a lake, a cafeteria, a ropes course, a bookstore, a hotel, 4 tabernacles, a snakateria, and a nursery.
We own our cabin...a small cabin...rustic...2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, a living area, and a large screened in front porch. It is named "The Silver Goblet". About 27 years ago, my great-great-grandmother's silver goblets were stolen from our house...we used the insurance money we received for a down payment on this cabin...thus the name!
The 10 days are spent going to services in the tabernacle...there are 3 services a day...11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. There is also a Bible study in the morning at 9:30 in the tabernacle. They have wonderful programs for all children and youth in their own tabernacles during each service. Afternoons and evenings are spent sitting in rocking chairs on front porches across the campground catching up with people that we only see these 10 days each year. There are no tvs, no telephones, no computers, no real AC (just window units in the bedrooms!). It is like living back in time...it's a wonderful place to be!
It's also a special place...it's where I accepted Jesus when I was 10 years old. The tabernacle I sat in day after day this year....hearing some incredible teaching...is the same place I gave my heart to Him 26 years ago. It's also a special place because this year on Thursday, July 17th, Paul and Addie asked Jesus to come into their hearts at one of their services in the children's tabernacle. They are excited about beginning their journey.
We had a tremedous 10 days! Most of the time Gobby (my mom) was there with us...Hudson (my nephew) spent a week there with us while his new little brother, Samuel Bain McGehee, was born and in the hospital....GoGoDaddy (my dad) came and spent a night with us here and there....and Glenn came and spent a couple of days. The kids had a blast and already can't wait for next year!
